MICROSOFTS NEW CREATIVE TEAM: US

What I found interesting about this commercial is the creativity but in a non conventional way. Whats makes this commercial so different than many of the advertisements I’ve seen in the past is that the ad agency didn’t really need to think of any new ideas to form this commercial, the idea was already there. We gave them a brilliant commercial, so you know what America, pat yourself on the back, WE’RE ALL IDIOTS. Or maybe robot zombies, which ever tittle you prefer.

We have all caught ourselves texting or looking at our phone at the wrong time. The commercial is relatable, in the most way possible, to the average americans life . Personally I cant say I’m talented enough to ride a bike and text although people obviously are but I have definitely caught myself walking down the street, lying on the beach, being ignored by boys, trying to enjoy a concert, and I’ve even missed a couple steps walking down the stairs.

Ever since becoming a media major and journalism minor and taking classes like this I have been way more aware of when I am on or even touching my cellphone. I find it pretty ironic that this commercial that is a borderline PSA is actually for a new cell phone. A cell phone that saves us from our phone. Really? Is that really possible?

Hopefully but doubtfully this blunt depiction of what society is really like when it comes to cellphones will not only help promote the product which is what the commercial was made to do but will help spread awareness and save us all.

WE'LL BE LOOKING LIKE JOE IN NO TIME

The other day as I was surfing the web doing my normal procrastination thang I stumbled upon something that while worrying me, put an intriguing sarcastic smile on my face.
After looking at all the pictures and reading the blurbs that went along with them all I could say was “common world, is this really what we’re doing”. If you guys  remember we were all laughing in class at the outfits that all the characters in Idiocracy were wearing but after finding these pictures I thought, is our society that much different?
Check out the new fashions that have already been made. I guess in a way it’s a little different because they aren’t being massed produced and sponsored by companies but this idea isn’t too farfetched.
Chances are this was probably just some fashion students final project but I still think that it’s quite interesting that they exist, maybe there’s a little Idiocracy in everyone…

yes these are quite crafty and "creative" but are they crossing the line ?

WHATS THERE DOESNT EVEN MATTER

In a sense I am glad that I am writing this blog entry after today's discussion in class because it really made me think even more about the essay. I really began to think about the fact that Klosterman says that certain information isn't necessarily important because the content is well written or amusing but because the content is there. Like I said earlier today in class I think the fact that information, in this case being social networking, blogs, websites, TV shows and everything else we are faced with everyday, are always available and in virtually one spot makes it so appealing to us. I think that saying that we are addicted to seeing into peoples lives is a cop out to our addiction of the internet and technology. I think that since content is there we have the need to look at it even though we really aren't taking it in. Its funny, people look at way more information today then they ever had in the past but in such short intervals, so really what is coming out of this intake of, what some would say, irrelevant bullshit . Because we live in such a fast paced world we are never really learning anything. We aren't reading anything well written (well, most of us) and we are just browsing the world skimming everything and anything “learning so much” but not really caring. In the end realizing that nothing really means anything. Therefore nothing is remembered and nothing REALLY benefits the everyday person. I guess this sounds confusing and depressing but I guess thats the theme of the day.

WHO THE FUCK IS THE INTERNET?

FOREWORD & AFTERTHOUGHT ALL IN ONE

[This isn't what I wanted my first post to be. I wanted to explain what I’m going to try to do with this blog in an organized fashion while explaining my thought process and analysis of the media in a thematic way but you know what, fuck it. I guess that's not really how I work as a thinker and writer. Heres my theme, things that bother me about the media, every day things that drive me insane, things that make me think for hours. Here I go.]

The other day I realized I was running to the bathroom to pee every 5 seconds (I later realized I drank 3 cups of coffee within a 2 hour span of time) but I figured that I should research this “problem” on the internet because I mean come on the internet knows all. I went on a website that may be familiar to the average person, WebMD. Their tag line is “better information, better health” so I figured why not dabble in the WebMD world. Well after typing in all of my “symptoms” I all of a sudden had diabetes. Who are you WebMD, telling me that I have diabetes, your not a doctor, or are you? Not only was my question “are you a doctor?” but also “who are you mister or misses know it all?” This opened up a whole different perspective in my mind of the internet and the information it brings us. I don't have diabetes, I just drink too much coffee. We hold the internet on such a pedestal, it knows everything, any question I have it answers, but my question is who the fuck is the internet. Answer that google. We go to this almighty service seeking answers to all of our questions but really my one question is, who is feeding us the answers and is the way we’re acquiring our information legitimate? We don't think twice about going on the computer to obtain answers, but maybe we should.

Recently I’ve been struggling with the concept of legitimacy and the media. I may sound like I’m over analyzing basic things in our society or like I have an extreme case of paranoia but I mean how am I supposed to trust something that I don't know even really exists. Another example or this problem of trusting illegitimate things is the celebrity. Me and a few of my girl friends started a conversation the other night on celebrities that we've seen in person and it got me thinking something besides my usual response which would be, “so what?” My response was now “thats so weird, I feel like they’re not supposed to be real”. People get so fucking excited when they see their favorite celebrity or even when they see other peoples favorite celebrity but I think the opposite. Personally it freaks me out that these people with the help of the media have built such an ideology for themselves (whether its fact or fiction) that when they are seen actually existing it almost feels wrong. I have seen 2 celebrities in my lifetime, Simon Cowell at a local restaurant in LA and Tom Cruise on his red Ducati at a red light. I almost felt bad or wrong for seeing them off of the TV screen. To me these people aren't real, which I know sounds fucked up but I feel like once you make yourself out to be this higher being in the media then that's all you are, an illegitimate image of something that will never truly and fully be real.

I don't really know what my main point is when thinking about the media and the people involved in it with relation to their legitimacy, but I do know that I don’t buy it, whatever it is. I'm not sure if I’m ready to just let the internet answer all my questions and I’m not sure if I’m ready to meet Johnny Depp and talk to him as if he's just some guy I met at a bar. Do I ever think there will be a time where I can calmly ask google a question without wondering who is answering, no, but I do think that by changing the ways I think about things and reading other peoples interpretations of the media will help me cope with my obsession of not wanting to believe in the media.
